Protecting Our Quality of Life
When more and more of Montgomery County’s open space continued to fall prey to "urban sprawl”, Tom Ellis fought to keep Montgomery County green. Since January 1, 2004 when Tom became a member of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners he was successful in his efforts to preserve thousands of acres of open space and farmland as "special treasures". Tom has worked hard on quality of life issues during his tenure.
With a record that is second to none, Tom was able to:

Save 1,034 acres of Farmland in Montgomery County

Save 52 County acres

Save 68 Municipal acres

Save almost 600 acres of private non-profit acres

Open 11.5 miles of trails

Create a taskforce to consider options for greenhouse gas reduction

Implement a plan that switched county electrical accounts from traditional energy sources to emission-free, renewable wind power

Strong advocate for mass transit which reduced less traffic congestion on County roads
